This fishing report is from Mark Collins Guide Service, www.markcollinsguideservice.com
The rain over the past week has cooled the water a little, and put some oxygen back in, some Bass have moved shallow and the Crappie are starting to bite better. Look for the fishing to start getting really good again with the first cool front in September.
Bass fishing is fair and the bite is getting slow with all the hot weather and lack of rain, most bass are on deeper cover, under deeper docks and on the creek and river channel ledges, humps and submerged road beds, they are being caught on medium to deep running crank baits, 1/2 ounce spinner baits, Carolina rigged plastics, and jigs, the top water bite is fair on deeper banks and sea walls early and late. Some fish are still being caught shallow, around grass on deeper banks. 20 plus pound stringers have been winning the tournaments all year. The Bass fishing on Weiss Lake, rivals
Lake Guntersville for the last 2 years. The Weiss Lake Improvement Association and Weiss Lake Anglers, will be stocking Florida Strain Largemouth this fall.
Striper fishing is fair and they are being caught in the lower Chattooga River, at the Cave Hole in Little River and Little Spring Creek, down lining and flat lining live shad 8 to 10 feet deep in the river channel.
Crappie fishing is fair and most fish are on the main Coosa river channel ledges, in 12 to 16 feet of water on cover, and they can be caught spider rigging with minnows. Night fishing is good under lights and over structure, a lot of fish are being caught under docks in the upper Chattooga River shooting jigs.
